I have a different definition of obsolete.
Obsolete is when you can't do with the device what you could do before, or it has become significantly more difficult to do so.
So, if there is a new super-DRM that prevents current books from being read on old devices, that makes the old device obsolete, at least for readers of current books.
By this standard, most, if not all, Palm devices are obsolete. But no Kindle is.
What you mean by obsolete is that you like the new features better.
