Anathem is very different from, say, Snow Crash and Diamond Age; and even Cryptonomicon. The three books in the Baroque Cycle might be the next ones to read - style-wise they are almost a bridge between the style of his older works, and Anathem. For what it's worth, given that everyone's tastes are different, I loved Anathem and the Baroque Cycle more than I did the other three I mentioned. If you do read Snow Crash, bear in mind that it was written well before things like Second Life were around...

Or you might want to try something like Iain M Banks' Culture novels.
