Cover, btw, is only supported in EPUB/AZW3.

Polish Book will force calibre to update all that metadata on the copy inside the library as well. It only works on EPUB/AZW3, and will not even update title and stuff for .mobi and others.
Polish Book does not (by design) utilize plugboards.

Polish Book should only be necessary if you use Dropbox/calibre2opds/some other method of accessing the calibre library files directly. Or if you are using it's other functionality, of embedding a book jacket etc.
Hmm. OK, I get it, I think, but where is this functionality located? How do I tell Calibre to Polish the book? (There are some times I really want to update the metadata on a book, even though I don't particularly intend to send it to a device right now. )
