I don't have an Aura, but it is definitely there on my Glo. Each of the sections are squished a little bit and the "Page layout" section is added after the page refresh.

When the option is unchecked, it adds a line to the "Reading" section of the config file. So adding "fullScreenReading=true" in that section as well should hide the headers and footers.

And the case of the option name is important. It must be "FullScreenReading" in the "FeatureSettings" section and "fullScreenReading" in the "Reading" section.

And I just looked at my original post. I said to add the two lines. Was there already a "FeatureSettings" section? If so, add the "FullScreenReading" line as part of that section.
