I can't stand the night modes. It makes the white letters just dance in my eyes. I tried it many times, its horrible for me.

If you are having issues reading on the backlit screens, you might try an app called f.lux on the computer or iOs, or one called Twilight on android devices. Both are free, and both work by shifting the screen's color profile to more resemble that of the ambient light and filtering the blue spectrum. It will take a couple days to get used to - at first it seems a little orange.

I have been using Flux for several months and it has completely changed my relationship with my devices.

ETA: Unfortunately f.lux is only available on iOs if you are jailbroken
Thanks, never heard of any of them. I don't have an i devices, only hubby, but they are work toys and I don't touch them. I'll check out what it is for the fire maybe.

I can read for hours on my e-ink kindles so that has always been a joy to read on. But back lit stuff? So far not as pleasant. I keep trying. I am always afraid they'll get rid of e-ink all together one day and then what do I do. I can't read paperbacks as well either as the font is so small. I went from 5 books a year reading to 189 the first year with my kindle back in 2008/2009.
