@93Terp: The majority of the Kobo updates have no changes to the underlying database schema or file system layout on the Kobo.

Updates to the calibre driver are normally limited to simply changing the maximum supported DB version, to ensure that people who run calibre without the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option selected in the driver do not see an error message.
