The Alphabet Mystery series by Sue Grafton might also be to your liking. The main caharcter is a female detective by the name of Kinsey Millhone The first one is "A" Is for Alibi", Grafton has come as far as W :-) It's not as goofy as the Stefanie Plum series but a little more light-hearted than V.I. Warshawski.
