Try holding the switch to the right for 20 seconds, release, then hold light switch and slide the power switch to right for a second or two and watch the LED. The reader must be off in order for the reset to work. If it doesn't do anything repeat as it was not off.
If that doesn't get you anywhere it's time to contact Kobo, or open the case and unplug the battery then reconnect and see where you get with it.
