They can be a bit slow to reply, but in each similar situation for me (yes, more than one!) they've issued a refund as well as an additional promo code of equal value. Not so bad. If they fail to give you a code, just email them again about it - it's probably an oversight.

HERE'S A TIP: I have recently noticed that after adding a preview of a book (rather than buying it), I can then see in My Library if an epub download is available. I think I'll do that from now on as a precautionary step, seeing as you can't see this info in a book's listing.

In one especially annoying case, they even gave me a 100% off code for all the aggravation! I've yet to use it - can't quite decide on a title ... Any suggestions?
