I've put some screenshots below.
For the Morisawa fonts (Ryumin / Gothic), they actually look quite good, if they don't lack some characters ("拋", in this case). (In fact, they lack characters less than I remembered; maybe Kobo had been patching them?)
The default style is the interesting one. For some of my books, it uses Ryumin. For the others (like here), it uses a really small font, which seems like a fallback font in Kobo system. It also lacks some characters.
The font I use for my Kobo is a modified version of Arphic PL UMing (20% bolder than the original one), in which the "拋" is present.
Please note that these are traditional Chinese texts. I don't have simplified Chinese books right now, so I'm not sure if they'd have different results.
