@highstream - I don't think so (hope not), I think he was just letting us know what permissions he has on that registry key on his Win 8 system. Which are not the same as yours, and in that there's an entry for SYSTEM with special permissions, they're closer to what I have on my Win 7 system.

If there are any further ramifications of your problems I wouldn't expect you won't see them until you install version 1.32.

I discovered something else that's interesting - in HKLM\..../Folders registry key I found references to the 64 sub-folders within in the Program Files\Calibre2 folder.

However, there are 80 sub-folders in Program Files\Calibre2 folder. I'm not sure on what basis the Trusted Installer creates those registry entries, I assumed it was based on the presence of the sub-folders. No, none of the sub-folders folders are empty.

I'm not inclined to spend any more time on it, even though I did find a 'cute' program for listing and extracting the content of .msi files - Less Msiérables
