I'm not sure what you mean by "an additional format of type 'jpg'".
As BetterRed points out, if you
move a book to a different folder all unknown file types are gone.
This means that "cover.jpeg", "cover.bmp", "cover-1.jpg" are gone. I learned this the hard way.
