if you switch to book view in he library list and hit the menu button you can delete multiple books
Just check off the ones you want to delete and select done IIRC

Haven't tried other method on T3, but on T1 it just deleted the books from the shelf, not the collection.

Still haven't tried it from the book but the long press is very handy in the book list menu. Thanks for the tip.
