Permissions have changed in Win 8, to somewhere between a bit more than "if at all" and a bit less than "quite a lot"
. I am on the boat at the moment (no, not fun, been blowing up to 40 knots and pouring with rain
) with only a 32 bit PC, if I get a chance I'll have a look at a 64 bit PC and see what its relevant permissions are when I get home tonight.
The update this week for Win 8.1 was a major one, from memory about 800MB for 64 bit and 500MB for 32 bit versions of Pro (those MBs included some small Office ones though) and forced several restarts so not much room for missing anything there.
