You could also sniff the packets between the device and the internet with something like wireshare, in combination with a packetsniffing AP.
Then you would get a better chance at making your own kobo-compitable software!
Oh, but you would need a method to sniff the HTTPS traffic, maybe a proxy and a self-signed CA(which you would install in the Kobo firmware)?
