I've never read any Brooks, is this worth a read?
I read Magic Kingdom for Sale SOLD! years ago so my memory is a bit foggy. It's definitely lighter fare than his Shannara series and I would suggest not starting with this series.

Here is how I would read Brooks.

Start with Elf Stones of Shannara. Sword of Shannara is not necessary to read - I enjoyed it when I was 12 but in hindsight its a total Tolkien ripoff. I feel like Elfstones of Shannara definitely stands on its own. It's a fantastic fantasy novel - easily on my top 10. The Wishsong of Shannara is great too. It might be worth buying the trillogy that includes Sword of Shannara.

Then continue onto his best work, Heritage of Shannara series, and read them in order. The omnibus on Amazon is absolutely worth the asking price:

Really great fantasy series. Interesting characters, dark themes, and highly suspenseful plots that keep you guessing. I can't recommend this series enough.
