I don't have a Sony, but I don't see why not. If the onboard verification doesn't allow you to checkout books by verifying without an ID, you can always use ADE. When you "Authorize this Computer" you can fill in your AdobeID, or check the box on the bottom saying something along the lines of "authorize this computer without an ID".

You end up with a screen that looks like this (if you go back to the authorization screen): see screenshot.

EDIT: It looks like you cannot transfer from ADE to a reader without verifying by ID. But I'd assume Sony has the same option, to only allow it for the device itself?
