I have the Poetic Slimline case for our 8.9" Kindle Fire HDX that my 7 yo mostly uses. It was fine for an inexpensive case, though I think I'd rather have a tougher case considering how much he uses it.

I'd do a factory reset and see if that fixes it if not it's defective. My PW just sits collecting dust. The problem with owning 4 kindles is remember to charge them every so often!
Right now I use none of them just my Nexus 7 tablet for reading. It does everything I need it to.
I get two weeks of charge on my PW but I do keep WiFi off unless needed.
