To trigger a factory reset using the pinhole reset, hold in the light button (Glo, Aura HD, Aura) or the home button (Touch), press the paperclip reset switch and release the light/home button when the LED starts rapidly flashing -- usually referred to as discoing. For the Mini, there is no physical button but some arcane suggestions on triggering a hardware factory reset have surfaced now and then.

Just pressing the reset switch is similar in effect to powering the device off and back on. It can be useful when your ereader is frozen and will not respond even to holding the power switch for 15-20 seconds to power off.
