At some point during the night a mouse (I strongly suspect it was just the one, there wasn't enough, um, evidence to suggest there's been more) got in the kitchen, got ONTO the worksurface, and availed themselves of the one foil-wrapped chocolate that was sitting there not in a box.

The first I knew of it was when I moved some bits to clear enough (I need at least three times the amount of space clear to do pastry than I actually use) worksurface to wash so I could roll pastry out and found shredded foil wrapping. And then other evidence

The only things the poxy mouse had touched was the one chocolate, and paused to take a nibble out of an instruction leaflet (that I'd forgotten I still had, as I no longer have the gadget it tells me how to use!). That's it. The bread was untouched (but went in the bin anyway), the box of chocolates and the box of barfi were untouched (thankfully - I needed something sweet at that point!), everything else - untouched. Even the toaster cable.

So apart from a brief stop for pizza (the pie making can wait until tomorrow now) I've spent all evening bleaching and disinfecting my kitchen (all three smallish worksurfaces of it); and blocking the only possible way the blasted thing could have got up.

You need a cat.....
