NiLuJe's comment was in reply to the person posting here with a Paperwhite, not a K3.

The K3's "downloader mode" is programmed into its on-chip ROM during manufacture - you can't change it.
The includes the 5 second wait for a valid command, and then it assumes that being in "downloader mode" is an error and shuts down the chip.

So send it a valid "downloader mode" command in less than the 5 second limit.

You didn't mention what downloader software you where using, so it is impossible to say specifically "how" or "what".

If you would share a few more details - -
Such as what you are trying to do with the "downloader mode" and what you are trying to use to do it with -
