I'm sorry gpjo, I'm probably not a lot of help to you. I'm sure others will be along shortly to help you.
I had no problems with my set-up recognising my Note 3. My problem was purely down to my impatience, thinking Calibre had hung, and not realising it would read the whole device and all file formats on the first occasion it was attached.
