If they didn't have the pocket, people would complain. Better to have a pocket that people don't use than not have one for those who need it.

I made my own sleeve (only need it to protect screen from scratches from stuff in my purse) with no pocket. I made my sister's with a gusset pocket so she had a place to put her cord and plug (into the wall). Complete with a handle since she doesn't carry a purse.
