Many apps don't work at all on the Kindle Touch or the Paperwhite. Before purchasing apps, you will be altered if it doesn't work on your device. My Settlers of Catan app worked with the Kindle Keyboard, but doesn't work at all with the Kindle Touch or the Paperwhite. My wife has a Kindle Fire, and there is a Catan app for Android, but for some reason it's not available for the Fire. I'd get it and sideload it, I really couldn't figure out the instructions.
Other apps are a bit brittle. I have an app for playing Gin that works quite nicely on the Touch, but often doesn't work on the Paperwhite. The app itself will start, but won't let me actually start a game. I have to restart if I want to actually play the game. I just use a few apps, the e-ink readers aren't exactly ideal for games.
