Credits are ways to obtain books at a far lower cost than just buying them. In consideration of that savings, there are certain rules attached. Sounds like you signed up without knowing what you were signing up for.
You want something legitimate about complain:

Gift cards. You could just give someone money, which is good anywhere and forever, and a note, but instead you're expected lock your money up so it can't be used any where else, and if you don't use it, the company just takes it, and the only consideration you get in return is a worthless, disposable piece of plastic with the store's name on it.
