nope I ordered them in Europe where you can get them from resellers and you don't have to bother with kobo themself.
For what it's worth, most of the horror stories regarding ordering from kobo are from the time directly after the release of new models, so it might simply be a case of kobo being overwhelmed by the amount of orders and not a general problem. (just speculating)
