The Kindle Fire HD 2012 does NOT offer this capability.

I don't own the Kindle Fire HD 2013 so cannot say if it offers it or not.

None of the Paperwhites offer it.

While we are at it, does anyone know if the Kindle App for Android on the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Smart Phone will offer text to speech?
I don't believe any of the Kindle apps offer text to speech.
