If The Brain or Docear have local datasets you could put a shortcut (.lnk) file to the dataset in a book (it would appear as a LNK in Book details), or you could use the URI Link facility in Comments (or a custom comments-like column) to link to the datasets - this has the advantage of allowing a book to link to multiple datasets from The Brain and or Docear.
