The interesting thing about the independent bookstore share was that in 2011 it was around 1/10th of the big chain share. In 2012 it was about 1/5th.
I'm really curious to see newer data; the giant e-commerce and indy bookstore gains in 2012 were mostly due to Borders going bankrupt and B&N closing a lot of stores. (Because the market always equals 100%, removing a big chunk automatically adjusts everyone else's marketshare, even if they aren't really doing any better).
