The work around I've been using for some time now is to take the PDF scanned images and convert them using Adobe Pro. Although it renders a large MB file, you can then easily -
and I mean easily and quickly - convert or copy into another document to an output of your choice. (Since I already used Adobe Pro extensively to generate PDF's, this was not an added expense for me.)
