It's hard to compare 2 entirely different units = technologies.
Since you've already narrowed it down to those 2, I'd simply make a general check:
A few months ago I was sure, I'd never buy a dedicated reader again, since I can do so much more (surfing the web, playing games, streaming movies, ...) on my tablets.
But to my surprise, with the arrival of Paperwhite 1, I've switched back to dedicated readers.
Since then I've bought Paperwhite 2, Nook Glowlight and Kobo Aura HD. All because of the phantastic backlit feature - perfect for reading in bed.
Now I don't read on my tablets anymore ("reading" as in books. I still read websites and stuff on the tablets).
Personally, I'd still say, dedicated readers are vastly superior for reading. I've got the usual arguments: Weight, measurements, battery duration, clarity of the screen, ...
So, in my opinion and experience, any tablet only makes sense for additional tasks, such as games or surfing the web and the likes.
It basically comes down to the question: How much time will you spend reading on the unit? How much time will you do other stuff?
If it's 90% reading, go with the dedicated reader of your choice. If it's 50:50 or something like that, any tablet obviously is the better choice, since you won't be able to do those things conveniently on a reader.
Even though you've narrowed it down, one last thought:
I'd carefully consider, whether to buy a dated unit.
There are so many state-of-the-art bargain units, that I can't see any argument for purchasing anything older than, let's say, 6 to 12 months.
And:
Since you obviously carefully consider your options, it should be worth the effort to check for alternative purchasing channels.
I'm in Germany and bought the Nook GlowLight via MyUS.com. 10% handling fee + shipment + customs in Germany. Considering the pricing level in Germany vs. the US, I end up about even...
(In Germany, consumer products cost about the same in Euro, as they do in the US in Dollars. When shipping from the US, with all the uplifts I end up in the range of the same price I would have to pay, if the respective unit was available in Germany).
