You would probably be best to ask in the Kobo Developer's forum about the night mode feature, I don't use it but as far as I know it doesn't affect the frontlight function in any way.
(Note that the Kobo e-ink readers are not locked, so there is no need to root them to make changes to their firmware.)
As far as Overdrive, what do you want to do with it? If your local library gives you access to its Overdrive collection then you can download epub or pdf books using Adobe Digital Editions and read them on the Glo just like you would with an epub or PDF bought from a bookshop, there is no need to install any Overdrive software on the Glo. Or did you mean something else?
