The Bible is public domain: if the translation is old enough. If you were to get a hold of Moses' stone tablets, you could copy the text all you wanted. My copy of the Epic of Gilgamesh is copyrighted, although the original text is public domain. I'm free to run the ancient Babylonian text into Google Translate if I want.
