.doc opens perfectly fine in LibreOffice in my experience.
Thanks eschwartz, I just got rid of AbiWord in both computers. It was a relief. Everything (w/LO) since has been solid. And good to know about docs opening well.

Do me a favor if you would. I was reading one of your old posts about how cruft seeps into any document that doesn't use styles. You were talking about span tags creeping in between every word in some paragraphs. Well, that's exactly what happened to me. (see, if you would, the post in the Gregg's Advnetures thread dated 3/19 7:19am. Ignore the part about flash drives. That flash drive I was asking about was just shot.) The only thing is I was using Styles. (the "text body" style). Curious to see what you have to say about that. Thanks.
