I can totally relate to what you're saying. But did you notice SoulfulDog's post? (post #104) It shows the release dates of EVERY single e-ink kindle ever made. Apparently they have always been released in Sept or Oct. There hasn't been one exception to date.
So if you don't mind waiting another 6 or 7 months, then I'd say go ahead and wait. It might be worth it to have the cutting edge version
But if you have your heart set on reading your brand new kindle on the beach this summer, then you might be better off getting a 2nd gen Paperwhite now at a bargain price.
Like you, I was waiting also, but when I saw Amazon was having that one-day-only sale, I couldn't resist getting a 2nd gen Paperwhite for $20 off.
Kindles do really well on the second market, so I figured if worse came to worse and the 3rd gen turns out to be a MUST have, rather than kicking myself, I can always sell my new 2nd gen Paperwhite on eBay and buy a 3rd gen. I probably won't, but at least it's an option.
A six-month old, gently used 2nd gen Paperwhite will easily sell for $99 on eBay, especially if it's bundled with a cover or something. And if you get it on sale for only $99, you'd be recovering your entire cost.
