I have worked on calibre since 2010, sometimes full time, lately less. Much of my work was aimed at things I wanted in calibre such as custom columns and advanced searching, at things that were interesting and fun to do such as hierarchical columns, or more recently the calibre-side code to support apps like CC.
As for donations to calibre, they go to Kovid, which is as it should be. Calibre is his brainchild. The donation stream supports him and his family; it is what they live on. If people find CC useful, remember that it would be nothing without calibre. Please support Kovid so he can continue to dedicate his time to it.
