In the interests of balance, I thought I might mention that the map in my paperback edition of Riddle-Master's Game by Patricia A McKillip is absolutely shocking. The black is too heavy, meaning all the letters run together. You can just about make out what things are meant to be if you concentrate.

Maps are a problem in ebooks, though. Even if the resolution is good enough, it's not always easy or quick to navigate to and from the map.
