Life is full of uncertainties. When I buy a book, either on paper OR electronically, I certainly don't buy it with the view that it's a "lifetime investment".
That proportion would be very very close to 100%. I only get rid of books that I really didn't like and am thus highly unlikely to read again. (OK -- I also purge the shelves now and then to make room for new books. Likely casualties in this case are books I now own in bits. But I count that as "still have today.")
