With e-pubs a "page" is considered approximately 1024 characters (I say approximately because it's 1024 based on compressed file size not the raw data and there is also differences in compression so even that isn't always exactly the same). If you turn on page numbers in the options (as Ripplinger suggested) you'll see the small page numbers at the right side of the page and you'll see that it varies up and down the page (or may not show up on a given "page"). This will stay in the same spot in the text (or very close -- might move depending where the sentence breaks to the next line) regardless of what font size you use. Kepubs on the other hand use a displayed "page" of text as it's "page" so if you change the font size the number of pages will change and a page number may not relate at all to the same text (depending on chapter and font sizes).
Poke around the forums and there are a couple of tweaks that may let you change this or use calibre to change you e-pub to a kepub to get screen page numbering (although it does also change other aspects of the display as well).
