Just got done with The Obsidian Pebble by Rhys A. Jones, the first in a new children's adventure series with a tinge of fantasy/science fiction about it.
It's pretty clearly aimed at the 9-12 range (or middle grade), but to me, it fit well into that fortunate group of children's books that work well also for older readers (or at least for this particular older reader), with more character depth and roundedness than many adventure books for kids in this age range tend to have. Anyway, I enjoyed it a great deal and I'll be looking forward to the next book, whenever it comes out.
