Unfortunately the 3G coverage isn't worldwide and even in countries which have it enabled, its quite easy to chew through the 50Mb monthly data allocation if your email provider's webmail site is full of bloated scripts, stylesheets and graphics. When he gets a replacement, your friend should make sure he has his provider's mobile webmail site bookmarked, and should use WiFi whenever it is available rather than 3G.

It is possible to get the Kindle Experimental Browser into a persistent state where it errors out loading non-Amazon pages even if one's usage is under the data cap. A device reset followed by visiting the Amazon store to establish the 3G connection, followed by using the browser to access the US Amazon login page usually resores normal operation.
