Kobo India might be an entirely different business unit to (say) kobo.ca. They might start wondering why all that marketing spend in Canada is useless, while India does great with no budget.

It could be a different publisher in India. It could well be subsidiary rights with a smaller percentage going back to the author.

Pretending that there's no harm done is just self-deception, I think. There might not be much harm done. There might even be good done, in a few cases (is a $2 sale better than a $4 non-sale?), but I think you have to take responsibility for your decisions.

It is against Kobo's T&Cs to lie about your location. I don't really know if I care about that, but I do feel it's a step too far for me to take in search of a bargain.

I don't feel I have a right to exploit every digital loophole. I know people here in the UK who use a proxy to get the US version of Netflix. I don't do that. I choose not to lie. That's the deal I agreed to.
