@dsmid: AFAICT, from a hardcoded special case inside their freetype implementation (which is why it's the best font to override on FW >= 5.4 if you use a custom FT, since it would look exactly like Caecilia 'classic' in that case).

@chunchunchun: Does the bold/italic/bolditalic styling look consistent in M7 (mobi) files? I'm a bit in the dark when it comes to styling with CJK fonts, so I can't really say much more. Maybe the metadata on your custom font is weird? Try with another one to check?

Or you simply might need to be a bit more devious in your FC config, like the special serif/sans cases. You'd have to check how Amazon handle the CJK fonts in their config.
