I've bought the US editions of the books that ARE available, but I've picked up the Gollancz/Orbit editions of those that are not available in North America. I'd buy them from my store, except they're not available at any price. I owned most of them as pbooks, but am replacing them with ebooks.

Lack of availability is why I ventured to travel recently, in order to get a book chosen for the Literary Book Club in March. It simply wasn't available in Australia (it was by a Native American and maybe thought not to be of interest, or with a publisher not in Oz) so I tried a change of address in order to get it. The other alternative was to buy a secondhand copy through Abe Books, but in that case, the author doesn't get anything. So I feel totally comfortable about what I did - it certainly wasn't to try and squeeze every last cent out of the system.
