Perhaps related to that, certainly. But I would wager that even amongst book lovers, the percentage of active posters to this thread who have done (and liked) shift work is remarkably high. I worked 3rd Shift (graveyard) for >8 years at one job, and 5 years at another. And another 4 years or so on 2nd shift, but my preference was definitely for 3rd shift. I could lead a nearly normal life, just (as my son put it) "upside down". I could date, go to plays or ballet or concerts, go out to dinner, etc. You can't do any of that on 2nd shift, except on your days off.
