Help, please. I'm on the latest version of Calibre 1.27. I thought I recalled a recent update that made this possible or even simpler; however, looking through the recent updates, I could not find it.

Help is VERY much appreciated.
Merge ('M' shortcut) within Calibre is about combining Metadata (line items in the spread sheet) along with its formats

Epub Merge (the PI) is about combining Books (makes a bigger book)
