Sherlock is an interesting one. I've only read the first of the books/stories so I can't really add to the discussion too much. (I also saw the show first.)
I definitely preferred A Study in Pink to A Study in Scarlet.

It's still an adaptation, and from what I've seen thus far (and heard) it's actually more faithful than a lot of others.

Bridget Jones' Diary was mentioned twice. I saw the movie first and have since seen it multiple times. (It's one of my bad day movies.) I did not like the book at all.
I didn't like any of the characters in the book, but liked all of them in the movie. I haven't read the second book, but having read the first, I kind of get the weirdness that was the second movie.
