Sorry Orlok, it was indeed you who got Budding in England. I also missed a point for pdurrant for Kurzweil being born in the USA. (Keeping these scores gets very complicated!) Here's the list again. I'll leave it for another few hours if people want to guess any more, and then wrap it up. I found it interesting that we have so many very useful things and have no idea who actually invented them or in some cases, how early they were invented.

1. Harry Coover, 1917-2011. Superglue. Orlok 1 point.
2. Humphry Davy, 1778-1829. England. Miner's safety lamp. Orlok, 2 points.
3. William Addis, dates unknown. Invention about 1780. England. pdurrant, 1 point.
4. Raymond Kurzweil, 1948-present. USA, Optical character recognition. pdurrant, 2 points.
5. Alexander Fleming, 1881-1955. Scotland. Penicillin. Orlok, 2 points.
6. Jean-Joseph Etienne Lenoir, 1822-1900.
7. Montgolfier brothers, 1740-1810. France. Hot air balloon. Orlok, 2 points.
8. Adophe Sax, 1814-1894. Saxophone. Stitchawl, 1 point. Belgium. Bilbo, 1 point. Saxhorn. Bilbo, 1 point.
9. Faust Vrancic, 1551-1617. Italy. (Actually Republic of Venice.) Bilbo, 1 point.
10. Edwin Beard Budding, 1795-1846. England. Orlok, 1 point.

Scores now are (I think!):

8 Orlok
3 pdurrant
3 Bilbo
1 Stitchawl
