Oh yeah... This series really shouldn't be used as an entry point to the fantasy genre. I've been reading fantasy for more than 40 years (actually much more) and the first book was one hard slog. About 3 chapters into book 2 and still a bit confused with multiple new characters, though we aren't dropped into the middle of something confusing.
