kindle 3 (keyboard) not charging

Hello
I have just bought broken kindle 3 keyboard for a 25$ with shipment. I will have it in home at tuesday. The previous owner said that it's not charging the battery - he even bought new battery and he used it until he completely drained the battery - kindle was not charging new battery either.
Could you help me find defect in it ? Any ideas ?

First thing I will check with multimeter will be micro usb in kindle - often they are broken or loose.
I bought kindle with old battery which is probably completely drained so could I charge it in external charger without I2C - just using + and - ?

Do you know if its possible to turn on amazone kindle 3 and use it with a battery without that I2C pins just - and +? - I have plenty of batteries with similar capicity (or I can connect two identical batteries-parallel connection) from mobile phones which have 3 pins plus, minus and some other for measuring temperature. If I manage to repair charging (I hope it will be broken micro usb) then is it possible to charge such a battery from mobile phone (2 pins-without I2C) with kindle?
